PRESIDENTS REPORT - JUNE 2010
For and on behalf of the Board of directors of the Wollongong RSL Bowling Club, it is with great pleasure that I present my End of Financial Year Report to the members.
This year was another hard year for all Clubs especially Bowling Clubs. After the previous year’s results, the Board and Management put a lot of time and effort in producing a tight Budget with a lot of spending cuts from the previous years. The years result still has to be put through the Audit process.
The Nett result for the year is ($92,189.95). Our trading before interest and depreciation is $105,859.28, which is a great improvement and a good result moving forward.
I have attached some graphs to the report for all members to look at in regards to wage spend, overall expense, Nett profit and Profit before interest and depreciation. You will be able to see clearly that the Club is heading in the right direction.
The Budget that has been set for this upcoming year has seen even further cuts to wages, promotions, advertising, and general costs to the business. The board and management are very happy to say that we still have $2.85 million dollars invested earning interest at the bank.
The Board and Management are pleased to let the members know that the DA for the Capital Works at the Club are lodged with council.
On a more serious note, we have had some complaints about the use of Bad Language in the Club. I know we are not all angels, but I would ask that we all try and keep the special words to a minimum.
Don’t forget that we have the “Cash Only” concert coming up on the 29th of August. We have the two ticket option. Concert or concert & buffet and I can assure you that the buffets set by Top Nosh are outstanding.
Bingo is running on Mondays and our Trivia game on Wednesday nights are attracting consistent numbers.

To all our regular members that are not Villains fans please be understanding that this is a special event and generates some great income for the Club plus helps introduce new people to our fantastic Club.
On the weekend of the Villains there will be no Friday night raffle or Poker but we will be running a Sunday day poker game for our poker players plus the Sunday Raffle will be a bigger than usual raffle with the same amount of prizes to be won as a standard Friday night raffle.
There is some entertainment in the upcoming months every Saturday night at the Club. Check out the Web site or subscribe to our weekly email for further information.
Good luck to our number 2 Pennant side for next weekend Lets hope they can bring home the state flag.

The Villains played on the June long weekend and it was a big one with the Club at capacity. The Villains were originally booked to play August 13th which is Friday the 13th. PRESIDENTS REPORT - MARCH 2010
For and on behalf of the Board of directors of the Wollongong RSL Bowling Club it is with great pleasure that I present my March report to the members on the performance of the club up until the end of February.
The past 8 months has seen change to the way Club’s in general approach the day to day running of their business and that our Club is no different with cost controls and restricted spending being the major priority whilst still trying to offer our members the best possible facilities and offer at Club level.
The club’s current financial performance is currently ($137.57) year to date the board and management are pleased with the current result and will be looking to go from strength to strength and close out the financial year with strong positive numbers.
We were disappointed in the fact that during the month of February we lost 6 days of bowls due to bad weather a couple of these days were big visitations from other bowling clubs and a trial match with Engadine. This had an impact on the result for February.
The Board and Management are close to finalising the proposed scope of works for the upcoming capital improvements to the Club. I will keep the members updated each month through this report.
The board and Management were disappointed in the attendance at the last Sunday members concert Rock around the Country.
We are very much hoping that in the next concert the Zips will be heavily attended.
Don’t forget that we have the two ticket option. Concert or concert & buffet and I can assure you that the buffet at the last concert was outstanding.
The Villains played at the Club on Saturday 13th of March and it was standing room only once again a great night was had by all. The Villains play at the Club again on the 13th of June.
Bingo is running on Mondays with strong numbers and our Trivia game on Wednesday nights is attracting consistent numbers.
WWP Poker is attracting large numbers and is helping trade along nicely at the Club.
The Wheel of Wealth gaming promotion has started with lots of positive feedback from our players so don’t miss out on your chance to spin the wheel every Friday night at 6pm and on Mondays from 2pm.
During the month of April we will be running a poker machine promotion offering a Plasma TV keep your eyes out for the upcoming advertising.
Our pennant season has started with mixed results, lets dig deep player’s... time to show some RSL pride.
Congratulations to Bob Wilson, Greg Thurling, Neil Cropp and Harry Johnston on their Zone 4’s win.
Once again I would like to thank all the staff for there continued effort in making the club an excellent place to play bowls and enjoy a drink with friends.

PRESIDENTS REPORT - FEBRUARY 2010
For and on behalf of the Board of directors of the Wollongong RSL Bowling Club it is with great pleasure that I present my first report to the members on the performance of the club in the first half of the new financial year.
The past 7 months has been a very up and down time in club land with a lot of clubs experiencing an excellent first quarter of the year and then seeing the door slammed shut during the second quarter of the year due to interest rate increases and lack of work in the area during this period which traditionally has been the busiest trading period for all hospitality businesses especially clubs.
The club’s current financial performance is stronger than it has been for the last couple of years and with major cost cuttings and controls in place we are very positive that we will see black numbers at the end of the financial year.
The club has agreed to terms with Sub – Branch in regards to the new lease and we look forward to continuing the harmonious relationship with the Sub – Branch in the future. The club will be seeking financial aid with the purposed capital works from the Sub – Branch with all matters in regard to safety and Australian standard compliance.
Moving forward the Board and Management are currently looking to upgrade a number of areas within the club:
• New Power Sub Station.
• Kitchen refit (Compliance).
• Fire evacuation system (Compliance).
• Disable ramp access (Compliance).
• Repairing and remarking of the car park (Member Safety).
• Re – location of outdoor gaming.
• Indoor outdoor TAB facility and lounge area.
The club will also be looking at reducing power cost by installing solar panels and feeding power back into the grid.
These will all be costly exercises but must be completed for the club to keep moving forward. The board has put together a strategic plan to complete all capital works over a period of three years this will ensure that we preserve the moneys the club has invested. We would hope that all members will be understating of the spending on the club that is required in the upcoming future.
We are currently researching different options with synthetic greens as a cost savings to the club long-term.
The board and management is currently looking at reducing the clubs bus fleet from 4 buses to 2 the reasoning behind this; running cost, insurances, registration etc. It would seem that having 4 buses at a club of this size is more than a luxury in the current financial climate.
The club will continue with its excellent entertainment roster our monthly concerts and solo and Duo artists of a Saturday night.
Bingo will now run only once a week after the completion of the capital works the Bingo offering will once again be looked at.
Our Trivia game on Wednesday nights is attracting consistent numbers.
We now have the WWP Poker offering that is one of the best in the Wollongong area and at a far less cost to the club this will continue help drive our Bar and Gaming dollars.
Our end of month raffles have been a great success along with our bill busters gaming promotion and we would like to thank all that have been part of the promotions. Moving forward we have decided to run a promotion for the members only that will be drawn on the 2nd of July 2010 some lucky member will be driving away in a new car. Make sure you swipe your card each time you purchase anything form the bar to get your ticket in the draw.
We will also be running new poker machine promotions at the club that will be running on Monday’s & Fridays, there is signage around the club with the exact starting times.
During the month of March we will be running a poker machine promotion offering a Plasma TV keep your eyes out for the upcoming advertising.
Our pennant season will soon be upon us and I wish all players and sides along with mangers this year the best of luck. This year will see us playing in grades 2-7 with one less side to help boost our reserves and team cohesion.
Congratulations to all the club championship winners and I look forward to seeing you out there in the heat of battle this year.
I would also like to thank all the staff for there continued effort in making the club an excellent place to play bowls and enjoy a drink with friends.
Thank you one and all.
